So i use lotion like crazy and always have, but lately the cuticles have been all pushed back...not stuck on the nail like normal. my skin is all red and sore where the cuticle is supposed to connect to my nail. it hurts so bad!. You probably wash your hands with harsh soap and/or in hard water. Use vaseline on the cuticles at night and wear cotton gloves so it can soak in. Poor nutrition can also make this worse.Cuticle care...Sore red fingers where cuticle meets nail...HELP?
If they're red, painful, and pulling back, you may have an infection. Do you get manicures, or share manicure tools with anyone? I got a bad nailbed infection after getting a professional manicure. My symptoms were similar, and then the cuticle area got very swollen and then full of pus - I ended up going to the doctor to clear it up. You can try using an antibiotic ointment on them to see if that helps, but if they swell up, get to the doctor.

Whenever you go for a manicure, bring your own tools to avoid getting an infection.

chances are the tool you pushed your cuticles back with was not as clean as it should have been and now your cuticles are infected. Or one of your nails had an infection but by using the same tool you spread it to the other nails. Either way the fix is fairly easy.

1. pour some peroxide into a bowl and soak your finger nails for 10 minutes.

2.wash and dry your hands well.

3. put a small dab of neosporin on each cuticle and cover with a bandade.

4. repeat steps 2 and 3 everyday until your fingers are healed

5. avoid nail polish and removers for a week or so since the skin will still be tender

6. do not mess will the cuticles they protect your nailbed roots from infection when your hands get dirty.

What products do you use to care for your nails/fingers?

My nails are a little uneven on the surface (so when I run my nail across them, i can feel it go up and down) and are a little dried out. My cuticles are also a bit dry, and the parts around the edges of the nail (near the tip of the finger) are dried.

What kind of products do you use at home to treat your nails? Such as files, buffers, lotions, etc. Are there any good affordable kits that you have used that you have liked? I need something to softly file the nails, to smooth the nail surfaces, to soften the cuticle and overall skin near the nails.

I also have callouses on my left hand from guitar, so I don't want anything that will soften those up too much.

Thanks :)What products do you use to care for your nails/fingers?
try not to use nail polish, that stuff will dry out your nails and take the luster out of them if you're really concerned..

i really like the 4-way buffer they have at like.. Sally's beauty supply, or probably any salon shop at that matter. it's a pretty inexpensive file/buffer that really smooths out those ridges on your nails (in fact one of the steps is.. ';smooth out ridges'; haha) it's less than 5 bucks and it works well in my opinion.

normal lotion should be fine. i'm a gymnast so the callouses on my palms are pretty precious too. don't use the ';hand repair'; stuff or deep overnight moisturizing lotions because that'll leave your hands feeling oilyWhat products do you use to care for your nails/fingers?
You can get a nile file and file them to a nice shape and a good size. But before you do that put some hand cream on so the nails are a bit easier to file down and your hands feel soft!

Then buff them so they are soft and shiney!

Now use a cuticle stick and push your cuticles down. Now put on some cuticle oil so your cuticles are not all dry.

good luck!

If the skin around your fingernails is also splitting and cracked and you also have cracked lips, sore mouth and tongue and grainy, sandy feeling eyes, then yes it is a vitamin deficiency. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) to be precise. Sounds diff though, you say all red and sore??? Does this mean swollen and puffy?? And all the same?? This sounds like a nail fungus, really common believe it or not. If its swollen and puffy go to the chemist and ask the pharmacists advice or maybe jus go straight to the Doctor and he can diagnose.

If its the first symptoms I described go get yourself a really good multivitamin tablet that includes all the B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12). Don't buy the B vitamins separately as they work best synergistically (as a group).

Expect to pay around $30.00AUD , don't buy synthetic vitamins (the cheap nasty ones) as they are notoriously hard to digest.

Also increase your intake of foods rich in B2 - liver, kidneys, cheese, leafy green vegies, fish, eggs, yoghurt and beans.

OUCH! Have you tried putting some perxiode on them to see if they have some type of infection started? Maybe at night try putting the lotion/vasoline on your hands and wearing gloves. Good luck
if its a fungus use vicks rub it cures fungus on toe nails it should work on finger nails .

Do guys look at finger nails? i always keep my nails medium length and long, but do guys really care?

I don't think guys find chewed up nubs attractive.Do guys look at finger nails? i always keep my nails medium length and long, but do guys really care?
I think that most men really do care. And I say this b/c you touch them with your nails. I have come to learn that most men are actually clean freaks and picky about little details that you would not even think a man cared about. I know that most men do NOT like it when a woman chews on her nails, and has ';nubs';. So, medium length and long, are the best bet b/c they are good for back rubs!Do guys look at finger nails? i always keep my nails medium length and long, but do guys really care?
No most guys look at **** and arses and then the rest of the package as long you are neat, clean and tidy and pleasant and courteous. they look at the whole package not little bits except they do look at **** and arses first. Bizare i know but think about what women look at in men and its the same, chest, ****, arms and eyes and hands, and general overall appearance.
i think guys tend to look at the overall package when checking out a female

so they won't specifically make not of your nails, BUT if you have really bad nails or really gawdy nails they would remember the 'eww' factor

other than that i don't think they'd remember your nails specifically
No -- we don't care about your fingernails as long as they're not those ridiculously long acrylic jobs with murals painted on them (ack!). What we like are nice breasts and/or nice asses. For some, asses are WAY more important than breasts. For others, it's all about the breasts. Everything else is negotiable.
If a guy cares about ur nails he must be a homo. I have a question 4 u do guys care if u have hairy legs.
urs are perfect

talons are tacky, stubs are childish
I like well-maintained, medium length nails. Talons ans stubs? Not for me.
Most of them seem to like natural nails.
i usually dont notice untill somesones like DAMN cut them things... then i cut them... but no.. i dont pay attention
depends

if their nails arent cut once in a while or it's dirty

then they wont care
some care, some don't.
I don't think so. I like to check out a woman's face, mams, and her behind.

Fingernails? no!
yes they do,
yep v do

My Lady Alice, clips my toenails regularly.

Indeed I do. Hands for playing guitar and feet so that I can hike. No fungus either... promise.
Yes, I have to cuz I don't want to run the risk of health problems finger n toe nails are manicured or pedicured. A lot of people should be aware of taking good care of themselves well , and stay healthy with tidy toe n' finger nails.

Off to a hot foot soak and manicure my fingernails....

I can't have fake nails because of my jobs just trim and unpolish.
Yes. Its just another good grooming thing. Everyone should try to look their best. I think details like that show more of what a person's like than the car they drive.
Yes, I'm obsessed with making my feet soft.
yes.but i take more care of my fingernails. i clip, file, and paint every week.
The wife does my toes my gut is in my way
Yep, on a weekly basis. I do it myself, though . . .Don't really like people messing with me.
i have to admit that this is an odd question. I like odd questions. Yes, I do take care of my finger and toe nails. I take care of every part of me. I like to look good because that makes me feel good about myself. When I feel good about myself, everything is so much better.
shouldn't we??? i hate when my finger nails/toes get all nasty and stuff......i have to keep them nice otherwise i feel unclean...
    Yes of course :)

How do you care for your finger when you are a nail bitter and bit the nail down to far and now it is infected?

My son in law bites his finger nails and now he had to go to the hospital after it got infected and swollen up and now in pain? The hospital doctor said that it is not a ingrown finger nail its just that he has bitten it down to low. So can someone please tell me how to fix the finger at home. He has been soaking it in warm salt and water and end doctor gave him antibiotics but he is in pain because the infection needs to come out. How do we do it? Can't he can-phonic on it?How do you care for your finger when you are a nail bitter and bit the nail down to far and now it is infected?
pain from infections settles as infection decreases.

infections don't decrease the instant antibiotics are given.

antibiotics take a couple of days to start to see effects in my experience.

salt water is a good natural antibactereal

    otherwise keep it clean.

localised infections (eg paronychias) can sometimes be popped/drained with a needle but i'm sure the doc would have done that if appropriate (and it's not a remedy for home really)
